Finnish National Team Jersey number 8 will be retired 30th of December. Truly an honor to have my jersey next to Helminen and my childhood idol Kurri.

Torino Olympics 2006 was the highlight of my career with Finnish National Team Leijonat… representing my country has always been a priviledge. I’ve felt so much pride wearing Finnish National Team jersey. Our line was amazing in Torino… playing with Lehtinen & Koivu was so enjoyable and easy… I have always believed in chemistry… with Jere & Saku we had something really special… we had it all… We beat Russia in semifinals 4-0… I consider it as the best game ever for Finland.. They called it a dream Final… Finland vs. Sweden… We just came a bit short… of course silver felt disappointing at first… we had such a great team… but all respect to Swedish team… they were 3-2 better in a Final Game… they deserved to win. Torino Olympics had a huge impact for the rest of my career… it kept me hungry… I still wanted to win something big… I had an honor to play in 6 Olympic Games… last one in Sotshi as a Captain… so many great memories… so grateful for all of the moments in Olympic Games!!! TOP8 moments of my career… next one is the moment number 4. It is… breaking Mike Bossy’s rookie record with my 54th goal on March 1993. Our Winnipeg Jets played against Quebec Nordiques… I had a feeling the moment will come… I was ready to break the record.. my buddie Tie Domi got the puck… he flipped the puck high on the middle zone… breakaway… GOAAAAAAAL! What a feeling it was!!! And sharing the moment with amazing Winnipeg fans… one of the greatest moments in my life. TOP8 moments of my career… next one is the moment number 5. Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy 1999… incredible moment… it was my third time with this honor to win the NHL best goal scorer in a season but… this time it was so unique… previous ones were shared titles with Mogilny 1993 and with Bondra 1998… this year I had it alone. It was the first time ever NHL presented a trophy for a best goal scorer… The Maurice Richard Trophy was a gift to the NHL from the Canadiens de Montréal to honor the first player in NHL history to score 50 goals in 50 games, 50 goals in a season and 500 goals in a career… I received the Trophy from The Legend himself. Maurice “Rocket” Richard passed away shortly after this. He gave me a moment I cherish for the rest of my life… Thank You Rocket! Suomi! We just arrived to Finland… HUGE week ahead :) My boy Jarkko Nieminen final night vs. Roger Federer… Jarkko and me against Roger and Peter Forsberg… opening Selanne.com… big hockey tournament… so many friends in town… WOW!!!
